CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR COUNTY ORCHESTRA MEMBERS

On Saturday, February 22nd, LLMEA (Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association) held the 2014 County Orchestra Festival. Each year, 200+ students grades 7 through 12 come together to perform a beautiful evening of orchestral music. Penn Manor was well represented by 10 students this year. Of those 10 were 4 of our very own students from Marticville Middle. Selected this year to perform were: Hannah Shenk (8th grade violinist), Emlee Charles (8th grade violinist), McKenna Eshelmen (8th grade violinist) and Nolan Stauffer (7th grade bassist). Former Marticville students now representing Penn Manor HS are: Caleb & Christine Bye (9th grade violinists). These students did a fantastic job representing Marticville Middle and Penn Manor School District. Congratulations to all of our Penn Manor Students for a job well done.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Over the years, the Scholastic Writing Awards have grown to become the longest-running, most prestigious program for creative teens in the United States. The program identifies teenagers with exceptional creative talent and brings their remarkable work to a larger audience.  This year, several students from Marticville submitted writing to the Scholastic contest, and we have several winners.  We’d like to congratulate the following students, who will be recognized and receive awards at a ceremony in February. Congratulations to Emma Spearing for receiving a Gold Key Award.  Congratulations to Hailey Fafel and Nicholas Fafel who both won a Silver Key Award.  And congratulations to AnnaKatherine Kirk, Samantha Adelman, Veronica Cazillo, and Ryan Shirk who all received Honorable Mentions.  You should all be very proud of your efforts!

Weather update for Friday, February 7th

Municipalities in the Penn Manor School District are experiencing a large number of road closures.  After consulting with our bus contractor and township officials, the district has determined that enough of the major roads in Penn Manor will be cleared in order to open schools on Friday, February 7th.  We realize that there are still a large number of secondary roads that may still be closed.  We encourage parents who live on impassable roads to consider either securing alternate student transportation or to contact your child’s school office regarding an excused absence.

In addition, we just learned that power to Marticville Middle School has been restored.  Since heat has been off for over 24 hours, we would encourage all staff and students at Marticville to dress warmly.

As always, school delay and cancellation information will be shared through our website and local television and radio stations.  Please check one of those sources tomorrow morning; initial schedule decisions are made by 5:15AM. Thank you for your patience and understanding throughout this challenging winter.

Delayed start…

Penn Manor SD will operate on a two hour delay with modified kindergarten on Tuesday, February 4, 2014.
