The 2015 Southern End Strutters and Marticville TSA Christmas Food Drive was a HUGE success. A HUGE thank you to the entire Marticville student body, teachers, staff and the TSA members for their generous contributions and hard work.
TSA members gathered, counted and sorted all of the canned goods for the three weeks leading up to Christmas. We collected enough food to pack 35 complete meals for needy families in the southern end of Lancaster County and especially of the Penn Manor School District. Each meal included: turkey, stuffing, gravy, 20 lbs potatoes, corn, green beans, yams, cranberries, loaf of bread and a pie. Extra donations will be donated to the Loft at Millersville Brethern In Christ Church which provided needed food and clothing to Penn Manor families in need.
This year we tried to get everyone involved. Mr. Baer’s class used it as a classroom lesson. They were in charge of distributing several large 50 lbs bags of potatoes into smaller 20 lbs individual bags. They weighed each large bag to see if the weight was accurate. Then they divided them up into smaller bags and weighed them for accuracy.
Here is a short list of some of our tremendous community members donating to our cause. They are: Four hundred pounds of potatoes were donated by Mr. Ron Metzler of Metzler Farms. Musser Markets donated 15 frozen turkeys. Darrenkamps Markets and Weis Markets donated gift certificate to be used for any needed supplies. Significant money contributions were provided by White Rose Settlement Services, Tierra Graver Real Estate office, Evans family members, SES members and Marticville teachers and staff.
The Scholastic Book Fair will be at Marticville Middle School on Monday, December 14 thru Friday December 18. Students are scheduled to visit the fair twice with their classes. A Book Fair Flyer is going to be sent home with your child this week.
Parents and relatives are also invited to attend the fair which is located in our lobby between the hours of 7:30 am and 11:30 am. Book Fair products make GREAT holiday gifts!
Marticville TSA Anual Christmas Food Drive
The Marticville TSA Chapter in conjunction with the Southern End Strutters is kicking off its annual Christmas Food Drive. This community service project is directed towards helping PM families in the southern end enjoy the Christmas holiday. Each homeroom is given a cardboard box with a list of items needed to supply a family of four with a complete family meal. The homeroom that brings in the most items will be treated to donuts, milk and orange juice some morning after Christmas.
Last years drive provided meals for approximately 98 people. It was so successful that the remaining items were given to Deb Meckley, school social worker, and distributed to the more than 72 families on her list.
TSA Annual Cheesecake Sale
The Marticville TSA chapter running a Pellman’s Cheesecake fundraiser from 11/16 till 12/11. The delicious cheesecakes will be delivered on 12/16, just in time for Christmas. Cakes can be ordered from any TSA member or you can call into Mr. Evans to place your order. The cakes range from $12 to $18 depending on the kind of cheesecake you order. The money raised is used to defer the cost of sending the TSA members to the regional and state competitions.
